A Deeper Look Into Our Candidates: Krista and Isaiah

Posted On April 26, 2023

Following the interviews, Insite and The Third Eye thought it would be a good idea to provide another article which delves more into the candidates’ backgrounds, more specifically any prior experience they have which they deem relevant for the role of Officer for Culture and Entertainment within KSU.

KRISTA HILI

Krista Hili is a 19-year-old student at the University of Malta. She is currently in her second year of studies under the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) course.

She tells us that already from a young age, she showed an interest in the performing arts, and in fact spent 10 years attending drama school and vocal lessons. Due to this, she participated in a variety of showcases in local Maltese theatres as part of her studies. In addition to her participation in showcases, Krista also competed in various singing competitions both on a national and international level, where she fared very well. Moreover, during her time at Junior College, she took up Theatre Studies as one of her intermediates, and hence she has extensive knowledge of how theatre productions should be brought up.

Other than experience in the arts, Krista has also experience when it comes to Academic organisations. In fact, she was part of Student Council during her secondary school years. In addition to this, she was also part of the SDM’s Junior College Executive Team, and also contested the role of Secretary General within KSJC. One she got to university, she formed part of the SDM University Executive Team for two years, the first year as Junior College Coordinator, and the second year as University Coordinator.

One of her most recent achievements within university is being given the lead role of Cady, during her first year of studies, in the KSU Students’ Fest – Min Hi Girls. She has said that this is her most significant achievement thus far as it has given her such a bi platform where to showcase her talent and she has also gotten the opportunity to work with a team of talented students from all sectors – such as crew, band, dance and so on.

Overall, these are all skills which she deems will be important for her if elected as Officer for Culture and Entertainment Officer within KSU.

ISAIAH RIOLO

Isaiah Riolo is a 24-year-old student at the University of Malta, currently in his third and final year of his Bachelor of Architecture.

Isaiah’s experience within the arts and academic organisations dates back to 2014 during his time at St. Aloysius College. There, during the scholastic year 2014/15 he took part in the SAC Soirée Orchestra. The following scholastic year, 2015/16, he went on to be the Coordinator for SAC’s Soirée Orchestra.  During his last year at St. Aloysius College, in 2016, he was part of the SACFEST crew. Besides experience within the art sector, Isaiah has also extensive experience in sports; having played numerous sports and competed on a national level, these being basketball, swimming and waterpolo.

Isaiah tells us that once he entered university, he ran and was elected for the role of Events Coordinator for the executive year 2017/18 within SACES. During his first year at SACES he organised one of SACES biggest Archoholics events pre-Covid – reaching 800+ attendees. The following year, 2018/19, he went on to getting elected as SACES’ vice-president; whilst during his last year in the organisation, 2019/20, he held the role of treasurer. Moreover, after ending his experience with SACES in 2020, Isaiah decided to take part in the 2022 KSU Students’ Fest, where he was part of the general cast. This helped him get a feel of how Students’ Fest actually works and sparked his interest in wanting to take part in the next one. In fact, during the KSU Students’ Fest of 2023, he took part as the Set Coordinator and Wing Leader.

In addition to his experience within university in the events sector, Isaiah has also experience working and organising events outside of the University Campus. In 2021, during the peak of covid, Isaiah founded a party organisation called ‘Social Circle’ for which he is also a DJ; this is a party brand which organises 21+ events every two or so months. In 2022 and even nowadays, he works as a lights producer for Blacklight Studios, and for 356 Entertainment as events artist liaison and production team.

All in all, Isaiah believes his experience has and continues to provide him with good skills and qualifications which would without doubt help him in executing a good job should he be elected for the role of Culture and Entertainment Officer within KSU.

Insite Malta and The Third Eye wish the best of luck to both candidates!
